Iglesia San Pedro y San Pablo, Catholic church in downtown Baja, Hungary

The Belvárosi Szent Péter és Szent Pál-templom is a Roman Catholic church on Szent Imre Square in downtown Baja. It is 40.5 metres long and 19.75 metres wide, with a nave 18 metres high and a single square tower above the main entrance. The tower was raised to 50 metres in 1791 and carries a tin spire made in 1841.

A smaller adobe church with a wooden ceiling was built on this site in 1728, facing the Sugovica. The present church was built between 1742 and 1765 with support from Count Antal Grassalkovich and the Archbishop of Kalocsa, and was consecrated in 1765. Its tower was raised to 50 metres in 1791, and the nave was enlarged in the 19th century.

The church displays paintings by Peter Prokop in the Saint Rita Chapel, which bring religious art into the interior space. These works create moments where artistic expression and faith meet within the sacred walls.

The church is easily accessible on foot from downtown and sits in a central location where pedestrians regularly pass by. It is helpful to check beforehand when services are held, as times can vary throughout the week.

The nave frescoes were painted in 1938 for the Eucharistic World Congress and the Saint Stephen Year, when the interior was also renovated. The tower's present spire was made in 1987 on what is now the parking lot of Szent Imre Square, then lifted whole into place by a large crane.
