The water body formed naturally in the Buda Hills and has persisted to the present day, while similar ponds like Istenszeme and Disznófő-forrás disappeared in the 1950s due to drainage systems. These changes significantly altered the landscape of the region.
The water body is called Béka-tó locally, which means Frog Lake in Hungarian, named after the amphibians that have inhabited this ecosystem for generations. This name reflects how local people recognize and acknowledge the wildlife that defines the place.
The area has benches, tables, and a fireplace nearby where visitors can rest and gather. Park maintenance staff are on-site daily from 8 AM to 4 PM if you have any questions or need assistance.
Despite the limestone geology of the Buda Hills, this pond survives because a thick clay layer underneath prevents water from seeping away. This geological feature is why this lake has endured when others in the area have not.
