Mechwart liget, Public park in District II, Budapest, Hungary
Mechwart liget is a public park in District II at the intersection of Margit Boulevard and Keleti Károly Street, covering about 18,000 square meters. The garden features curved pathways, green areas, and a central staircase from which two winding paths branch outward.
After World War II destruction, architect Vilmos Jancsó redesigned the park in 1945 with a new bust of András Mechwart as its centerpiece. This redesign transformed the space into the garden it is today.
The park is named after András Mechwart, a historical figure commemorated by a statue near the center. It functions as a green meeting space between two significant institutions in the neighborhood.
The park offers free wifi, functional training equipment, drinking fountains, restrooms, and bicycle parking throughout the grounds. These facilities are distributed across the space for easy access.
Two winding paths branch from the central staircase, leading to concealed benches positioned throughout the landscaped garden. These hidden seating areas allow visitors to find quiet corners away from the main pathways.
