Tisza-tavi madárrezervátum

The Tisza Lake Bird Reserve spreads across shallow waters, wetland areas, and forested zones that provide homes and nesting spaces for water birds. The landscape features open water surfaces, dense reeds, and scattered trees rising from the water that birds use for roosting and breeding.

The reserve came into being in 1979 after an artificial lake was created through the construction of a dam system in the Tisza valley. This change in the landscape quickly attracted water birds and led to the establishment of the protected area.

This reserve is a key place where local and migratory water birds can be observed living and nesting together in their natural surroundings. Visitors can watch how different species share the same wetland spaces across the seasons, making it meaningful for understanding the region's bird life.

To explore the reserve, visitors need to access it by boat from nearby launch points on the lake. Motorboats are restricted to outer areas, while paddle boats and rowboats can reach the quieter inner sections where birds rest and nest.

The reserve is home to large colonies of grey herons, spoonbills, and cormorants that build their nests in trees rising from the water. Seeing so many breeding birds gathered in one place is uncommon and makes this a remarkable spot for bird watching.
