Tisza-tavi madárrezervátum, Bird reserve and Ramsar site at Tisza Lake, Hungary
The Tisza Lake Bird Reserve consists of 34.76 square kilometers of wetlands, shallow waters, and forested areas providing nesting grounds for numerous water birds.
The reserve emerged in 1979 following the creation of the artificial Tisza Lake, formed by the construction of the Kisköre dam system.
The reserve functions as a research center for ornithologists who study migration patterns and nesting behaviors of various Hungarian bird species throughout the year.
Access to the reserve requires boat transportation from Poroszló or Sarud, with motor boats permitted only in peripheral areas while paddle boats explore inner sections.
The reserve contains specific zones where grey herons, spoonbills, and cormorants establish their colonies in trees emerging from shallow waters.
