Bear Farm Veresegyház, Bear sanctuary and zoo in Veresegyház, Hungary

Veresegyházi Medveotthon is a 3.5-hectare bear sanctuary opened on 24 November 1998 at Patak utca 39 in Veresegyház, with a further 11 hectares in use. Its two artificial ponds of 160 square metres each are refilled regularly, and a 1.5-hectare pine wood lets the bears hide and climb. Fourteen narrow-entranced artificial caves serve as dens, each shared by two or three bears.

The bear sanctuary opened on 24 November 1998 in Veresegyház, on a 3.5-hectare site at Patak utca 39, with bears previously kept in poor conditions in Gödöllő as its first residents. A wolf enclosure was completed in summer 2000, and a foundation was set up in 2004 to maintain and develop the park. It was officially classified as a zoo in autumn 2009, and a new wolf enclosure was built at the forest edge in early 2015.

The name Medveotthon means "Bear Home". Visitors can buy Maci-csemegét (carrot and fruit) at the ticket office and the Ajándékbarlang to feed the bears; feeding with honey was stopped in 2020 for health reasons. On weekends and holidays from March to October, a free 13:00 and 15:00 predator programme presents the large carnivores, and a 12:00 feeding show features the raccoons and coati.

The park is closed only from 25 December to 1 January; otherwise it opens daily, from 9:00 to 19:00 between April and September and from 9:00 to 16:00 in November, December and January. On weekends and holidays from March to October, a guided animal walk starts at 10:45, followed by free presentations with the large predators and birds of prey. The grounds cover 3.5 hectares, with a 1.5-hectare pine wood where the bears hide and climb.

The bear enclosures include two artificial ponds of 160 square metres each, restocked regularly; carp were introduced there, which the bears cannot catch but chase for activity. A 1.5-hectare pine forest lets the animals hide and climb, and fourteen narrow-entrance artificial caves serve as sleeping dens, each shared by two or three bears.
