Thury Castle, Medieval castle in Várpalota, Hungary

The castle features four corner towers and thick defensive walls, standing as a central structure in the heart of Várpalota city.

Built in the 13th century, the fortress gained prominence when captain György Thury defended it against an 8,000-strong Ottoman army in 1566.

The castle contains exhibition halls displaying regional artifacts and hosts numerous educational programs about medieval Hungarian military life.

Visitors can explore multiple renovated halls, attend cultural events, and learn about defensive architecture through guided tours in the castle.

The castle's walls, measuring several meters in thickness, demonstrate medieval Hungarian fortification techniques used against Ottoman sieges.
