BOK Sports Center, sports and event venue in Budapest, Hungary
The SYMA Sports and Conference Centre is a large venue building with modern, functional design and high ceilings located in Zuglo, a district of Budapest. It contains three main halls of varying sizes, with the largest capable of holding up to 10,000 people, plus flexible conference and exhibition spaces for smaller gatherings.
The building was constructed after a fire destroyed the original Budapest Sport Hall in 1999 and has since become a modern events venue. It was initially called SAP from 2000 to 2003, then renamed SYMA Sports and Events Centre before becoming the SYMA Sports and Conference Centre in 2016.
The name BOK stands for Budapesti Olimpiai Központ (Budapest Olympic Centre), adopted in 2016; before that the hall was called SAP, then SYMA. Its programme mixes sport and music: Ákos, Kovács Kati, Charlie, Keresztes Ildikó, Tankcsapda, Gary Moore and Morcheeba have played here. The 2024 Chess Olympiad was held in the complex.
The centre is easy to reach by public transport, with bus stops and metro connections nearby, and parking is available in the surrounding area. Arriving early during major events is recommended, as large crowds build up quickly and traffic can become congested around the venue.
The venue's name changed with its owners: it opened as the SAP hall in 2000, became SYMA in 2003, and took the BOK (Budapesti Olimpiai Központ) name in 2016 after the state bought it. Its programme has ranged from the 2013 World Fencing Championships to the 2024 Chess Olympiad.
