Our Lady of Hungary Basilica

The Basilica of Our Lady of Hungary stands with Gothic-style sanctuary and Baroque nave, featuring two prominent towers built between 1719 and 1722.

King Louis I of Hungary established the church with a Pauline monastery in 1352, where his daughter Hedwig received her education in the secluded location.

The church received a reproduction of the Black Madonna of Częstochowa from Jasna Góra Monastery in 1711, establishing a spiritual connection between Hungary and Poland.

The church functions as both a parish church for local residents and the administrative center for the Hungarian province of the Pauline Order.

The monastery adjacent to the basilica transformed into a prison after the Pauline Order departed in 1786, creating an unusual combination of religious and correctional facilities.
