Zelezna Baba Cave, Limestone cave in Sóskút, Hungary.

Zelezna Baba is a natural limestone cave on the northern slope of Kálvária-hegy with passages extending roughly 70 meters into the hillside. Several side corridors branch off to the sides for about 20 meters, creating a simple but interesting network to explore.

The cave entrance underwent major changes in 1928 when quarrying operations removed roughly 15 meters of the original opening from the Miocene limestone. This alteration shows how industrial activity once transformed the landscape without concern for natural features.

The cave carries multiple names in the region, including Zelezna Baba and Babó-lyuk, reflecting the linguistic diversity of this border area. These different names show how places in such regions often hold ties to various cultural traditions.

The cave sits a short distance from the nearest village and welcomes visitors freely throughout the year with no restrictions. Bring a flashlight and sturdy shoes, as the passages have uneven ground and some tight spots to navigate.

The cave earned a geological significance rating of 5 out of 6 for its limestone formations, yet remains largely unknown to tourists. This geological recognition makes it an overlooked destination for those interested in natural structures.
