Ambassador Cinema

The Ambassador Cinema is a building in Parnell Square that once operated as a movie theater with roughly 1200 seats arranged in regular rows and private boxes. Today it functions as an exhibition space and events venue hosting various cultural productions.

The building was first constructed in 1764 as part of Rotunda Hospital and underwent conversion into a movie theater in 1910. It continued showing films for nearly a century until closing its doors in 1999.

The cinema served as a gathering place where Dubliners experienced both classic and contemporary films over many decades. It reflected the city's entertainment tastes, showing everything from silent pictures to major international releases that shaped local viewing habits.
