St. Thomas's Church , Dublin, Anglican church building in Dublin, Ireland
St. Thomas's Church is a former Anglican church in Dublin featuring Georgian-style architecture from the mid-18th century with distinctive doorways and large windows. The building was extensively restored and now operates as a bar while maintaining its original architectural elements.
The church was built between 1758 and 1762 according to architect John Smyth's design, created when Dublin's population expanded and a new place of worship was needed. It eventually closed as a church and was repurposed for commercial use.
After closing as a place of worship, the building was converted into a pub while retaining its Georgian architectural character inside. Visitors can still observe elements of the original interior layout when they enter.
The building is accessible today as a public bar where locals and visitors gather in a restored historic setting. You can view the architecture and interior from close range while spending time there.
Arthur Guinness, founder of the famous brewery, married Olivia Whitmore here in 1761, linking the building to one of Ireland's most significant industrial figures. This connection gives the location unexpected historical weight beyond its original religious purpose.
