Charlemont House, Georgian mansion in Parnell Square, Dublin, Ireland.
Charlemont House is a three-story stone building with classical features located north of Parnell Square. The facade displays five bays with curved screen walls, decorative niches, and balustrades, while ornamental obelisks frame the entrance.
Architect William Chambers designed the building in 1763 for an Irish art collector and cultural patron. It was later converted into a municipal art museum and has continued to expand its collection.
The building was once the private home of a wealthy nobleman and now serves as an art museum for the city. The rooms retain the elegance of an aristocratic residence while displaying modern and contemporary artwork.
The building is centrally located in Dublin and easily accessible on foot from the city center. Visitors should allow time to explore the various gallery spaces throughout the interior.
The original owner assembled a remarkable collection of rare manuscripts, scientific writings, and fine art prints that were considered the finest private collection in the country. Though this library was eventually sold, its historical importance continues to shape the house's reputation.
