Kenmare House

Kenmare House is a mansion positioned near Kenmare Bay with large windows overlooking landscaped gardens that slope toward the water. The property includes multiple garden areas for walking and recreational spaces designed for activities such as tennis and croquet.

The building was constructed in 1726 as a residence for Valentine Augustus Browne, the 4th Earl of Kenmare. It stood until 1872 when it was demolished, marking the end of a significant chapter for the noble family's presence in the region.

The mansion displays traditional Irish architecture using local stone materials that reflect the social standing of noble families in Kerry. The design and layout reveal how wealthy families of the region lived during their most influential period.

The gardens are accessible on foot with paths suitable for leisurely walks at varying difficulty levels. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since the paths cross uneven terrain and proximity to the water means weather can change quickly.

The original stable block of the house underwent conversion into what became Killarney House while retaining structural elements from the 18th century. This transformation allows visitors today to see surviving architectural elements of the original property even though the main residence disappeared long ago.
