Church of St Peter, Carrigrohane

The Church of St Peter is a Gothic Revival church with a three-bay nave, a two-stage tower, and a stone spire. These structural elements define the building's external appearance and interior layout clearly.

The building was constructed in 1854 according to designs by architect Joseph Welland and received extensions between 1865 and 1868 under William Burges. These expansions substantially enlarged the original structure.

The interior features stained glass windows by William Gualbert Saunders and Henry Holiday that depict moral virtues such as temperance, fortitude, and justice. These windows shape how light and space feel throughout the worship area.

The building received a complete roof replacement in 2000 and major tower repairs in 2021. These recent maintenance projects ensure the structure is in good condition for visitors.

The stone spire was erected in 1897 to replace an earlier timber structure. This replacement reflects changes in building materials and construction methods that became common during the 1800s.
