Glenalbyn, Georgian house in Stillorgan, Ireland.
Glenalbyn is a Georgian house set on a 7-acre property south of Dublin, featuring modern sporting facilities integrated across the grounds. The residence includes a main structure with extended wings, a gymnasium, bar facilities, and multiple outdoor courts for recreation.
The house was built around 1810 by paper merchant George Tinkler under the original name Janeville House. It received its current name, Glenalbyn, in 1883 and eventually became a sporting facility serving the local community.
The property serves as home to Kilmacud Crokes GAA Club, where traditional Irish sports like hurling and Gaelic football are played regularly. Visitors can observe the daily rhythm of this sporting community, which has been central to local identity for generations.
The property is located roughly 11 kilometers south of Dublin city center and features well-maintained outdoor sports courts. Access to the grounds is straightforward, and the site includes covered facilities for dining and leisure activities.
The grounds once housed a 33-meter public swimming pool that operated until December 2013 before closure. Today, six professional-standard tennis courts have become the defining feature of the property's sporting role.
