Dimona

The city stretches across elevated terrain at 580 meters above sea level, featuring industrial zones and residential neighborhoods in the southern Israeli desert.

Established in 1955 as a residential center for Dead Sea Works employees, Dimona expanded from 300 initial residents to over 34,000 inhabitants by 2019.

The population includes Jewish immigrants from North Africa, India, Ethiopia, and a community of Black Hebrews who maintain specific religious traditions.

Transportation includes regular train connections from Beersheba, a central bus terminal, and five local bus routes serving different parts of the city.

The Indian Jewish community comprises 7,500 residents, creating a distinct cultural presence that earned the city the nickname Mini-India.
