Saint Anne Orthodox Monastery, Greek Orthodox monastery in the Muslim Quarter, Old City of Jerusalem

Saint Anne Orthodox Monastery is a Greek Orthodox monastery located in the Muslim Quarter near St Stephen's Gate on the Via Dolorosa. The complex includes a church dedicated to Mary's birth and features underground chambers and a tranquil courtyard.

The present monastery was built in 1907 by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem over a cave that tradition holds was part of the house of Joachim and Anne. The site is first documented as a church in the 12th century, and the Crusaders are said to have been involved in its construction. After the Crusader period it fell into ruin and was later restored by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate.

The monastery serves as a pilgrimage site where visitors come to honor the parents of Mary and participate in Orthodox prayer traditions. The space maintains its role as a functioning place of worship within the Old City's diverse religious landscape.

The monastery is accessible through several routes in the Old City and has a clear main entrance with traditional architecture. Visitors should dress modestly and show respect at this active place of worship.

Two caves lie beneath the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin: in one, tradition says, Anne prayed for a child; the other is held to be the birthplace of Mary and the first burial place of Joachim and Anne. Catholic tradition instead places Mary's birth in the crypt of the nearby Basilica of St Anne.
