Orient House, Palestinian political center in East Jerusalem, Israel
The Orient House stands as a three-story stone building with distinct architectural features characteristic of late 19th-century Jerusalem construction methods.
Built in 1897 by Ismail Musa Al-Husseini, the building hosted Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany in 1898 and Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia in 1936.
The Arab Studies Society within Orient House developed into the largest research institution in the territories, with over 100 staff members conducting Palestinian studies.
The building remains closed since 2001, with closure orders renewed every six months by the Israeli Ministry of Public Security.
Between 1948 and 1950, the building served as the headquarters for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.
