Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Museum, Diamond museum in Ramat Gan, Israel.
The Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Museum was housed within the Israel Diamond Exchange complex and displayed rough and polished diamonds alongside other gemstones. The collection featured both fine jewelry pieces and unusual items decorated with diamonds or crafted from precious materials.
The museum opened in 1986 to honor Harry Oppenheimer, a major figure in South African diamond mining and trade. After more than three decades of operation, it closed in 2018.
The museum displayed jewelry from archaeological excavations across Israel, showing how craftsmanship traditions developed over thousands of years. These pieces revealed how people in different periods wore jewelry both as decoration and as a reflection of skilled artistry.
The museum was located in the Israel Diamond Exchange complex near central Ramat Gan and could be reached by public transportation from Tel Aviv. Visitors should note the location is no longer operating as a museum.
The collection featured an unusual diamond-decorated tennis ball and works by German gemstone carvers depicting animals and flowers. These decorative pieces showed creative ways that diamonds and gemstones were used beyond traditional jewelry.
