Mahadeo Hills

Mahadeo Hills is a hill chain extending across three districts that forms a natural boundary between different river systems in the region. The sandstone formation varies in elevation, with northern areas reaching significant heights while southern sections drop considerably.

This hill chain formed hundreds of millions of years ago during an early geological period, laying the foundation for the landscape of central India today. The sandstone formations continue to shape the topography and hydrology of this region.

The hills have served as places of worship for centuries, with several shrines dedicated to Shiva dotting the landscape. Visitors encounter temples and sacred water sources that hold spiritual importance for local communities.

The hills support economic activities such as timber production in certain areas. Visitors should prepare for uneven terrain and varying elevations, particularly when exploring steeper sections.

Natural caves and rock-cut sculptures are found throughout these hills, telling stories of ages past. Additionally, sacred water sources known locally as Kunds are believed by residents to hold healing properties.
