Kurseong, Hill station municipality in Darjeeling district, India
Kurseong is a hill town in Darjeeling district located at 1,500 meters elevation along a main highway. Tea gardens and forested slopes surround the settlement and dominate its landscape.
British rule acquired the area from Sikkim in 1835 and developed it as a hill refuge for the colonial elite. Schools and educational buildings were established during this period and still stand in the town.
The name comes from a Lepcha word meaning white orchids, flowers that bloom abundantly across the hillsides. These blooms shape how the landscape looks and are woven into the local identity.
The area connects to Siliguri and Darjeeling through a historic mountain railway and road access. The nearest airport is about 41 kilometers away for longer journeys.
Around 20 tea estates operate here, each producing varieties that grow only in this high altitude. The conditions at this elevation create flavor profiles and qualities found nowhere else.
