Arya Tea Estate

Arya Tea Estate is a tea garden on the mountainous slopes near Darjeeling town, with land stretching across elevations between 900 and 1820 meters. The tea plants grow on terraced hillsides throughout this elevation range, where the conditions suit the production of different tea varieties.

The estate was founded in 1885 under the name Sidrabong when Buddhist monks planted Chinese tea seeds across the valley. This early establishment marks the beginning of tea cultivation in this mountain region.

The garden produces specialty teas named after precious gems such as Pearl white tea and Ruby black tea. These names reflect how the estate views its products as valuable treasures from the region.

Visitors reach the estate through Bagdogra Airport, located roughly 95 kilometers away, followed by a drive through steep mountain roads. The winding routes through this area require careful navigation across the challenging terrain.

The property preserves an original 19th-century house where Buddhist monks lived during the estate's early establishment. This surviving building offers insight into life during the initial phase of tea cultivation.
