Puri district

The district spans 3051 square kilometers along the Bay of Bengal, featuring coastal areas and agricultural lands with multiple rivers flowing through the region.

Following British annexation in 1803, Puri emerged as one of three distinct districts, evolving from its previous status within the Kataka circar of Mughal administration.

The district holds eleven blocks encompassing 1722 villages where residents participate in numerous festivals, including the Ratha Yatra chariot procession.

The region maintains a literacy rate of 84.67 percent, with the majority of its population speaking Odia and residing in rural settlements across eleven administrative divisions.

Rivers including Kushabhadra, Daya, Bhargavi, Kadua, Prachi, and Devi flow through the district, creating a network of waterways that support local agriculture.
