Koldam Dam, Embankment dam in Bilaspur, India
Koldam Dam is an embankment dam across the Sutlej River in Himachal Pradesh built with rock-fill and a clay core. The structure holds back water that feeds the hydroelectric power station located at its base.
Construction began in 2004 and the dam became operational in 2015 after years of planning and development. It was built to expand hydroelectric capacity along the Sutlej River corridor.
The dam forms part of a network of hydroelectric projects in Himachal Pradesh that demonstrate India's commitment to renewable energy development.
The dam sits about 18 kilometers from Bilaspur and is accessible via National Highway 21. From this main road, visitors can view the dam and the reservoir area stretching behind it.
The reservoir behind the dam holds 576 million cubic meters of water and supports a catchment area of 53,770 square kilometers.
