Pandharpur, Religious town in Solapur district, India.
Pandharpur is a pilgrimage town in Solapur district, Maharashtra state, India, stretching along the Chandrabhaga River. The streets lead toward several temple complexes while guesthouses and shops cluster around the religious centers.
The earliest written mentions date from the 6th century, when copper plates of the Rashtrakuta dynasty documented the site. In the 11th century, donations by Yadava Kings followed, expanding the religious complex and cementing its importance.
The name derives from the local god Panduranga, a form of Krishna, to whom believers travel from all parts of India. The sacred bathing sites along the river are visited by people in the mornings who perform ritual ablutions before entering the temple.
The town is reachable by train from Kurduwadi and Miraj junctions, with several daily connections running. Buses operate regularly to larger cities in Maharashtra, giving travelers different arrival options.
At Mahadwar ghat stands a smaller shrine for Bhakta Pundalika, housing a brick inside. According to tradition, Krishna waited on it until his follower could receive him without disturbing his parents.
