Sri Muktsar Sahib is a city in southwestern Punjab built around a sacred pool of water. The reservoir and nearby Gurudwara form the center of the settlement, with residential areas and shops spread throughout.
The city emerged following a 1705 battle when Sikh fighters clashed with Mughal forces and many lost their lives. The sacred pool became a place of remembrance and later the focal point of a developing community.
