Anglo Sikh War Memorial, Military memorial and museum in Ferozeshah, Firozpur district, India
The Anglo Sikh War Memorial is a three-story building near the Sirhind feeder that displays military objects and historical documents from the conflicts between British and Sikh forces. The grounds spread across about two hectares and hold weapons from that period along with carved quotes from historical accounts.
The memorial honors the battles of Chillianwala, Sabhraon, Mudki, and Ferozeshah that took place between 1845 and 1849 between British and Sikh troops. These confrontations shifted political control over Punjab for years to come.
Inside, murals and paintings by artists Jaswant Singh and Kirpal Singh show scenes from the battles between British and Sikh forces. These artworks help visitors understand what happened during those confrontations.
The grounds can be explored step by step and display weapons and historical objects both outdoors and in exhibition rooms. Visitors should take time to look carefully at the inscriptions and artworks inside the building.
The building was raised about two meters above the surrounding ground on the exact spot where some of the heaviest fighting took place. This elevation turns the location itself into part of the monument.
