Armenian Church of the Holy Nazareth, Religious landmark in Burrabazar, India
The Armenian Church of the Holy Nazareth features marble facades, dark wooden pews, and expansive interiors illuminated by natural light through large windows.
Following a fire in 1707 that destroyed the original wooden structure, Agha Nazar supervised the reconstruction of the church in 1724 on the Armenian cemetery.
The church maintains twelve candles at the altar, representing the introduction of Christianity to Armenia through the apostles Bartholomew and Thaddeus.
The church grounds and cemetery are accessible without entrance fees, though interior photography requires permission while exterior photography is permitted.
Silver chandeliers shaped like open flowers hang from the ceiling, complementing the broad Doric columns that support the church structure.
