The Oberoi Grand

The Oberoi Grand is a Grade I heritage building that now operates as a luxury hotel in central Kolkata. Its facade displays Victorian arches, while the interior features marble columns and wings arranged around a central courtyard.

The hotel was built in the late 1880s and became a meeting point for gatherings of the independence movement. In the 20th century it welcomed politicians and became a venue for important discussions during colonial times.

The building preserves Bengal's culinary heritage in its restaurants, which serve regional dishes following old family recipes. Guests can experience the local food culture in its dining rooms, where traditions have been passed down for generations.

Access is easiest from Esplanade metro station, which sits a few minutes' walk away. The property has several entrances, and its public areas are reachable at ground level, making it easy for visitors to navigate.

Inside the courtyard stands a heated swimming pool surrounded by palm trees and Greek-style statues. This area offers a quiet atmosphere in the middle of the busy city and is used by many guests for relaxation.
