Kopineshwar Mandir, Thane, Hindu temple in Thane, India
Kopineshwar Mandir is a Hindu temple in Thane that houses one of Maharashtra's largest Shivalinga shrines as its central focus. The main sanctuary is surrounded by several smaller shrines dedicated to other deities distributed across the temple grounds.
The temple was established during the Shilahara dynasty period and underwent major renovation work in the 1760s. A second wave of significant modifications followed in 1879, funded through community contributions.
The temple serves as a gathering place where devotees come together, especially during Mahashivratri, to honor Lord Shiva through prayer and ritual practice. These celebrations connect the local community and shape the spiritual rhythm of Thane.
The temple can be accessed from two sides: one entrance faces Masunda Lake while another connects to the Jambhli Naka market area. These dual access points make it convenient for visitors approaching from different directions.
The sanctuary holds shrines dedicated to five different deities including Brahma, Rama, Hanuman, Shitala Devi, and Kali, spread across the temple grounds. This layout shows how multiple religious traditions come together in one location.
