Nana Rao Park

Nana Rao Park is a public green space in central Kanpur with walking paths, gardens, statues, and sports facilities throughout its grounds. The maintained grounds offer distinct areas for strolling, exercise, and recreation for visitors of all ages.

The site was originally known as Memorial Well and marks a location significant to the British colonial period. Following independence, it was renamed and transformed into a place of remembrance for national liberation.

The park displays statues of Indian independence fighters like Rani Lakshmi Bai and Lala Lajpat Rai that commemorate the freedom movement. These monuments serve as gathering places where locals pause to reflect on national history.

The park is easily accessible and provides multiple activities through its swimming pool, playgrounds, and exercise areas across its grounds. Visitors should plan to arrive during cooler parts of the day or allow time to seek shade beneath the trees.

A marker commemorates where a large banyan tree once stood, a specimen connected to significant colonial-era events. The tree was a defining feature of the grounds before it vanished, and visitors still recall its presence today.
