Mel Sithamur Jain Math

Mel Sithamur Jain Math is a temple complex in Villupuram featuring two primary structures dedicated to Parshvanatha and Malinatha. A seven-story tower rises prominently above the main buildings and defines the visual character of the site.

The complex was built between 1570 and 1600 after being relocated from Kanchipuram to this location. Its establishment was sponsored by Venkatappa Nayak, a powerful ruler who supported Jain institutions.

This site functions as a living spiritual center for the Jain community, where daily worship and rituals take place. Visitors can witness the devotion of followers and sense how important this place remains for local practice.

The temple is located roughly 20 kilometers west of Tindivanam and welcomes visitors throughout the day. Wear modest clothing and remember that this is an active place of worship where quiet respect is appreciated.

The Parshvanatha sanctuary holds a black statue of about 4 meters tall seated in a meditative posture. The surrounding walls feature finely carved depictions of various spiritual leaders that reveal the skilled craftsmanship of earlier artisans.
