Pari Mahal, Terraced garden palace in Srinagar, India
The Pari Mahal rises across seven levels on the Zabarwan Mountains, offering views of Dal Lake and the surrounding landscape of Srinagar.
Prince Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, constructed this palace in the mid-1600s as a residence and center for learning.
The structure incorporates Islamic architectural elements throughout its design, featuring arched doorways and geometric patterns within its terraced garden layout.
The monument remains open to visitors from 9:30 AM to 7:30 PM, with an entry fee of 10 rupees for a one-hour exploration of the grounds.
The palace served as an astronomical observatory where scholars studied the movements of celestial bodies and taught astrology to students.
