Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Botanical Garden

The Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Botanical Garden is a large green space in Srinagar with different areas for science, relaxation, and plant research. The garden displays many plant species and features a large lake where visitors can see surrounding mountains from boats.

The garden was founded in the 1960s to honor India's first Prime Minister. Its construction and expansion took about 20 years before reaching its current size.

The garden lies outside the city center and is best reached by foot or vehicle. Visitors should allow plenty of time as the grounds are large with several paths to explore.

At the heart of the garden sits a large lake where visitors can paddle boats while viewing the Zabarwan mountains. This lake forms a distinct feature separate from the planted areas and offers a different perspective of the landscape.
