Akhund Mulla Shah's Mosque, 17th-century mosque in Srinagar district, India

This mosque features a distinctive stone shell design with plane trees surrounding it, and a stone lotus crowns its elevated platform near Dal Lake. The main sanctuary sits completely separated from surrounding areas through a dedicated courtyard, creating an unusual architectural arrangement.

Prince Dara Shikoh commissioned this structure in 1649 to honor his spiritual guide Akhund Mulla Shah during the Mughal period. The building represents a significant example of Islamic architecture from this era.

This space serves as an active prayer site where local worshippers gather regularly to observe Islamic traditions and maintain their spiritual life. The stone walls and surrounding courtyard create an environment where community members come together for religious observance and quiet reflection.

The site is easily accessible on foot and sits in a spacious outdoor setting that allows for comfortable visiting. Its proximity to other nearby religious sites like Makhdoom Sahib Shrine and Khanqah Shah-i-Hamadan makes it convenient to visit multiple locations in one outing.

The structure features an uncommon architectural arrangement where the main sanctuary is completely separated from the outer world through a surrounding courtyard. This deliberate design choice creates a fully enclosed prayer space that sets it apart from other mosques of its era.
