Vasota Fort, Hill fort in Satara district, India
Located at 3,814 feet elevation, Vasota Fort stands on the banks of Shivsagar Lake, formed by the Koyna dam in Maharashtra.
The fort, constructed by Raja Nangopal of Panhala in the 12th century, became part of the Maratha Empire in 1655 under Shivaji Maharaj.
The stone remains of Shree Mahadev Mandir and foundations of the sadar discussion area reflect the architectural heritage of Maharashtra.
The trek starts from Bamnoli village, requiring a ferry ride to Met Indavli, followed by a guided hike through Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary.
The fort served as a prison facility during different periods, with natural defenses including dense forests and steep rocky slopes.
