Thrippalur Mahadeva Temple

The Thrippalur Mahadeva Temple sits along the Gayatri river with three sanctuaries dedicated to Shiva, Krishna, and Narasimha. A large ceremonial pond spreads in front of the main entrance facing west, creating an open space for worship and ritual activities.

The temple was historically administered by the Kavalappara Swarupam of the Palakkad Kings and still displays ancient granite structures with detailed stone carvings. These architectural elements reflect the craftsmanship tradition that developed over many generations.

The temple is part of a network of 108 important Shiva temples across Kerala, drawing worshippers who participate in traditional rituals and daily prayers. The community gathers here during religious festivals and regularly brings offerings to the shrines.

The temple is easily reached by road from nearby Alathur, with clear access from the west-facing main entrance. Visitors should allow time to explore and remember that traditional customs apply in this sacred space.

Paintings created over a century ago by a devoted follower remain visible on the eastern wall, preserving religious art that has survived through the generations. These handmade works offer a rare view into how devotional practices were expressed through visual means at this location.
