Tirunettur Mahadeva Temple

Tirunettur Mahadeva Temple is a Hindu temple in Vyttila with two separate complexes dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu, built following traditional Kerala architectural patterns. The grounds contain shrines for different deities including Ganapathy, Krishnan, Subramanya, Saraswati, Yogiswaran, and Pamban Devan.

The temple is said to be one of 108 Shiva temples founded by sage Parasurama in Kerala, showing the religious development of the region. This connection to the legendary founding gives it historical weight in local spirituality.

The temple becomes active during the eight-day Kodiyattu festival in the month of Dhanu, when both complexes participate with processions and rituals. This celebration shows how the local community gathers to observe sacred traditions.

Visitors can access the temple on most days and explore the different areas while respecting traditional customs and etiquette. It is helpful to allow time to visit both complexes and compare the different architectural styles of each.

The Shiva temple displays a complete traditional structure with symmetrical features, while the Vishnu temple has an unusual half-formed design. This architectural asymmetry is uncommon and shows a different building approach between the two sacred areas.
