Sree Sundareswara Temple, Hindu temple in Talap district, Kerala, India
Sree Sundareswara Temple is a Hindu sanctuary located near Kannur Railway Station, dedicated to Lord Shiva in his Sundareswara form. The structure displays intricate stone carvings throughout its interior and exterior spaces.
The sanctuary was built between 1908 and 1916 and is one of two sites consecrated by Sree Narayana Guru Devan. Excavations during its foundation revealed remains of earlier religious structures at the location.
This sanctuary played a key role in shaping the spiritual identity of the Thiyya community in Kerala. The eight-day Arattu celebrations in the Malayalam month of Meenam bring the community together in festivities that extend to the nearby Payyambalam Beach.
The sanctuary is within walking distance of Kannur Railway Station, making it easily accessible by rail. Visitors should be aware that several daily rituals and ceremonies take place regularly throughout the day.
This sanctuary is one of only two temples personally consecrated by the reformist leader Sree Narayana Guru Devan. This rare distinction connects it directly to a transformative moment in Kerala's religious history.
