Sree Sundareswara Temple, Hindu temple in Talap district, Kerala, India
Sree Sundareswara Temple is a Hindu temple in Kannur, Kerala, dedicated to Shiva in his Sundareswara form. Stone carvings cover both the interior and exterior walls, and the temple sits close to Kannur Railway Station.
The temple was built between 1908 and 1916 and consecrated by Sree Narayana Guru Devan, a major religious reformer in Kerala. During the foundation work, remains of earlier religious structures were found at the site.
The temple is closely tied to the Thiyya community, who gather here for daily rituals and seasonal festivities. The eight-day Arattu festival, held during the Malayalam month of Meenam, ends with a procession to the nearby Payyambalam Beach.
The temple is within walking distance of Kannur Railway Station, so it is easy to reach on foot. Daily rituals take place throughout the day, so visitors may want to time their visit around them to get a fuller sense of the space.
This temple is one of only two temples that Sree Narayana Guru Devan personally consecrated, and the only one in Kannur district. That makes it a rare stop for anyone tracing the legacy of his reform movement across Kerala.
