Thalassery Pier
Thalassery Pier is an old structure of stone and wood extending over 100 meters into the Arabian Sea. The construction offers direct access to the water and an unobstructed view of the horizon.
The pier was built in 1910 by the British East India Company to facilitate trade and protect ships from running aground on shallow waters and rocks. The port's development contributed significantly to Thalassery's growth as a trading hub.
The pier is known locally as Kadalpalam, meaning 'sea bridge' in the regional language. It remains a gathering place for fishermen and families who experience the town's daily connection to the sea.
The pier can be slippery after rain, so walk carefully on the surface. Visit during daylight hours, preferably in late afternoon when the sun shines over the water for the best experience.
The pier has become a popular filming location for Malayalam movies, featuring in well-known scenes including a memorable shot from 'Thattathin Marayathu'. This film connection has added another layer of cultural significance to the site.
