Sargaalaya Crafts Village

Sargaalaya Crafts Village is a handicraft center spread across a large area with about 60 stalls housed in eco-friendly buildings along a river. The shops display and sell handmade products created using local materials.

The center was founded in the 2010s by the Kerala Tourism Department to support local craft traditions. The project was designed to gather artisans together and make traditional skills accessible to visitors.

The center brings together artisans from different regions of Kerala who create and sell products from bamboo, coir, and coconut shells. Visitors can watch how these materials are transformed into traditional items.

The location is easy to visit and you can walk through the stalls at your own pace while watching craft activities. It is a good idea to come earlier in the day to observe artisans working and enjoy a quieter experience.

The center has a specialized institute that supports artisans in combining traditional techniques with modern production methods. This approach helps craft products appear both contemporary and rooted in heritage.
