Kadalur Point Lighthouse

Kadalur Point Lighthouse is a maritime beacon on the Arabian Sea coast in Kerala built from stone masonry with black and white horizontal stripes and a red dome on top. The 34-meter-tall structure stands on rocky ground and provides clear visibility from the water for passing vessels.

The beacon was commissioned in 1907 at a location formerly known as Cotta Point. A major shipwreck in the 18th century at this site highlighted the need for a navigational aid to guide vessels safely along this dangerous stretch of coast.

The lighthouse serves as a landmark deeply connected to the fishing communities who rely on these waters daily. Its presence reflects the maritime traditions that have shaped life along this coastline for generations.

The lighthouse sits about 30 kilometers from Kozhikode on a rocky promontory affected by tidal movement. The best time to visit is during the drier months when access to the surrounding rocks is easier and safer.

When the tide is low, remnants of the 18th century shipwreck become visible among the rocks at the base of the lighthouse. These traces offer a rare glimpse into the maritime events that shaped this location.
