Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary, Protected area in Kozhikode, India.
The Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary spans 74 square kilometers across three villages, featuring forests, valleys, and hills reaching elevations of 1506 meters.
The Department of Forests and Wildlife established this sanctuary in 2010 as the sixteenth protected wildlife area in the Kerala region.
The sanctuary functions as a critical element of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and forms an integral section of the Wayanad Elephant Reserve.
Visitors can access hiking trails and observation points through the Thenmala Eco-tourism Project, which coordinates all recreational activities in the sanctuary.
Scientists discovered a new termite species within the sanctuary, which houses 226 plant species found exclusively in the southern Western Ghats.
