Hatipathar, Rayagada, Natural formation in Rayagada, India.
Hatipathar is a natural rock formation in Rayagada featuring two large boulders positioned atop waterfalls along the Nagavali River. The rock shapes resemble elephants sitting on hills and overlook the river valley below.
The Nagavali River carved out deep gorges at this location over time, creating the waterfalls visible today. Monsoon rains in the region have periodically reshaped the water flow through the valley.
Local people use this place for family gatherings and celebrations throughout the year. The boulders and waterfalls hold meaning as part of the natural heritage that residents connect with.
The site is located a few kilometers from Rayagada town and is best reached by taxi or private vehicle. Wear sturdy shoes because the terrain is uneven and you will be near water and steep slopes.
The two boulders are continuously shaped by water pressure from the waterfalls, which slowly rounds and smooths them over decades. The surrounding dense forest makes this one of the better spots in the area to spot regional bird species and other wildlife.
