Green Line, line of Chennai Metro
The Green Line is a rapid transit railway line in Chennai, India, running from north to south across the city. Most of its 17 stations are underground, linking residential neighborhoods to commercial areas and key spots like the Government Museum and major shopping centers.
The Green Line was built as part of a city project to address growing traffic across Chennai. It was one of the first rapid transit routes in the city and changed how residents move between different parts of town.
The Green Line passes through some of Chennai's busiest neighborhoods, including areas with street markets, temples, and older residential quarters. Riders can step off at different stops and find themselves immediately in the middle of everyday city life.
Most stations are fitted with elevators and ramps, making the line accessible for people with mobility needs. Traveling outside of peak hours is a good way to avoid crowded carriages and find a seat more easily.
Part of the route runs on an elevated structure above ground, giving passengers an overhead view of Chennai's rooftops and streets that is rarely seen from ground level. This section offers a very different experience from the underground portions of the same journey.
