Tushita Meditation Centre

Tushita Meditation Centre is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery set in forested hills above McLeod Ganj. The facility includes three meditation halls, residential quarters, dining spaces, and a library where students take structured courses in Buddhist philosophy and meditation techniques.

The center was founded in 1972 when Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche acquired an old colonial house to receive western students. This establishment marked the beginning of a dedicated place for teaching Tibetan Buddhism to non-Tibetan seekers in India.

The center follows the Gelug tradition and draws people from many countries seeking to study and practice Tibetan Buddhism together. Western students and experienced teachers share the daily life here, working through meditation and philosophical study.

The center operates from February through November and maintains daily schedules for courses and meditation sessions. Visitors should know the facility sits at elevation in a mountainous setting and focuses on intensive study programs, so advance preparation is recommended.

Since 2020, the center has offered free online programs allowing people worldwide to participate in courses and meditations from home. This digital expansion has transformed the traditional monastic practice into a global learning format.
