Vajreshwari Devi Temple, Kangra, Hindu temple in Kangra, India
Vajreshwari Devi Temple is a Hindu temple in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, sitting on a hilltop with views over the surrounding mountains. The golden dome rises against the sky and marks the shrine from distances across the region.
The site was rebuilt after the 1905 earthquake under government supervision. The reconstruction preserved the religious function and the architectural features that existed before the destruction.
The shrine is dedicated to one of nine goddesses worshipped along a pilgrimage route across northern India. Devotees pray before the statue of Dhaynu Bhagat, a follower who gave his life to the goddess and is still honored today.
Buses run regularly from Kangra town to the hill where the temple stands. Accommodation is available in nearby Dharamshala and McLeodganj, which serve as a base for the visit.
A small shrine to Bhairav sits inside the complex beside the main sanctuary. The statue of Dhaynu Bhagat recalls his devotion during the time of Emperor Akbar, when he gave his life to the goddess.
