The Kanakachalapathi Temple displays Dravidian architectural elements with three tiered gopuras above the entrances and contains multiple spacious ceremonial halls with Yali pillars.
Built in the 16th century during the Vijayanagara period, this temple was constructed by a local ruler and later received protection from the Archaeological Survey of India.
The temple houses sculptures of mythological figures carved in wood and stone, including black stone statues depicting various kings and queens from different periods.
Located 380 kilometers north of Bangalore, the temple remains open daily from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with extended hours during No Moon Days.
The temple maintains a large ceremonial chariot called Kanakaraya Ratha, featuring six wheels measuring nine feet in circumference each.
