Seebi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Seebi, Hindu temple in Tumkur district, India
Seebi Narasimha Swamy Temple is a Hindu temple in Seebi, Karnataka, located along National Highway 4 and featuring a three-tiered tower with decorated walls. The walls carry carvings depicting scenes from Hindu sacred texts, which is typical of South Indian temple architecture.
Three brothers named Lakshminarasappa, Puttanna, and Nallappa began building the temple in 1797, during the reign of Mummudi KrishnaRaja Wodeyar. Construction took place at a time when temple building was active across the Karnataka region.
The ceiling paintings inside show scenes from Krishna Leela and the royal court of Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar III. Visitors walking through the halls can see these colorful depictions up close.
The temple is open on both weekdays and weekends, with longer hours on weekends. The interior can get very warm, especially in the afternoon, so light clothing and water are a good idea.
Inside the temple there is a Shaligrama form of Narasimha facing northeast, which tradition says was once worshipped by Rama. This particular image draws pilgrims who come specifically to see it.
