Ankai Fort

Ankai Fort is a stone fortress in the mountains of Nashik district, sitting on a hilltop and surrounded by thick walls. There are carved gateways at several points that allow entry to the structure.

The fort was built during the Maratha period and served as an important military post in the region. It changed hands several times as different rulers fought for control of this area.

The fort contains ancient temples and structures carved into rock, showing how people here once worshipped and lived. You can still see the handiwork in the stone and building methods that were typical for this region.

To reach the fort, you need to walk three kilometers from Ankai village, with access from the state highway. It is good to wear comfortable shoes and bring water, especially in hot weather.

The fort uses natural rock formations as part of its defensive structure, creating a unified design with the landscape. Cisterns were carved into the bedrock to store water and help inhabitants endure longer sieges.
